LENT is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It is a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms; and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. LA CUARESMA es un periodo de 40 días de oración, ayuno y limosna que comienza el Miércoles de Ceniza y termina al atardecer del Jueves Santo. Es un período de preparación para celebrar la Resurrección del Señor en Pascua. Durante la Cuaresma, buscamos al Señor en la oración mediante la lectura de la Sagrada Escritura; servimos dando limosna; y practicamos el autocontrol mediante el ayuno. Estamos llamados no sólo a abstenernos de lujos durante la Cuaresma, sino a una verdadera conversión interior del corazón, para seguir más fielmente la voluntad de Cristo. Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence for Catholics. Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of abstinence. The norms on fasting are obligatory from age 18 until age 59. When fasting, a person is permitted to eat one full meal. Two smaller meals may also be taken, but not to equal a full meal. The norms concerning abstinence from meat are binding from age 14 onwards. If possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy Saturday night) as the “paschal fast“ to honor the suffering and death of the Lord Jesus, and to prepare ourselves to share more fully and to celebrate more readily His Resurrection.

AYUNO Y ABSTINENCIA
Miércoles de Ceniza y Viernes Santo son días obligatorios de ayuno y la abstinencia para los Católicos. Los viernes durante la Cuaresma son días obligatorios de abstinencia. Las normas sobre el ayuno son obligatorias desde los 18 hasta los 59 años. Cuando se ayuna, una persona puede comer una comida completa. Pueden también tomar dos comidas más pequeñas, pero no igual a una comida completa. Son vinculantes las normas relativas a la abstinencia de la carne desde los 14 años hacia adelante. Si es posible, se continúa el ayuno el Viernes Santo hasta la Vigilia Pascual (en la noche del Sábado Santo) como el "ayuno Pascual" para honrar el sufrimiento y la muerte del Señor Jesús y para prepararnos a compartir más plenamente y más fácil celebrar su resurrección.

During this season of Lent we will be offering additional opportunities for everyone to receive the sacrament of Reconciliation every Friday from 9-10 AM (except First Friday, March 7th) through April 11th. These opportunities will be in addition to our regularly scheduled Reconciliation days/times.

We will meditate on the Stations of the Cross in the church every Friday during Lent at 6PM (English), through April 11th.
(Bilingual on First Friday, March 7th & April 4th)

Volunteer Lenten Reflection - March 15

All current volunteers of the various ministries are invited to attend a Lenten Reflection on Saturday, March 15th. This spiritual growth opportunity will invite our volunteers to reflect on the upcoming Lent and Easter seasons. We will begin with Mass at 8:30 AM in the church, followed by some coffee & cookies in the Benish Center, and will continue with a reflection session until 11 AM.
Please Note: This Day of Reflection is mandatory for Liturgical Volunteers, and optional, yet highly encouraged for all other parish volunteers.~~~
REFLEXIÓN DE CUARESMA PARA VOLUNTARIOS – 15 DE MARZO
Reserve la fecha para nuestra Reflexión Cuaresmal anual de Voluntarios. Todos los voluntarios actuales de los diversos ministerios están invitados a asistir a una reflexión de Cuaresma el sábado 15 de marzo. Esta oportunidad de crecimiento espiritual invitará a nuestros voluntarios a reflexionar sobre los próximos tiempos de Cuaresma y Pascua. Comenzaremos con la Misa a las 8:30 de la mañana en la iglesia, seguida de café y galletas en el Centro Benish, y continuaremos con una sesión de reflexión hasta las 11 AM.
Nota: Este Día de Reflexión es obligatorio para los Voluntarios Litúrgicos, y opcional, pero muy recomendable para todos los demás voluntarios parroquiales.

This Lenten season, parishes in the Diocese will be offering varied Lenten programs and extended reconciliation times. If you have been reluctant to come to the sacrament, have been away for some time, or just find it difficult to get to a Saturday afternoon Confession time, this is a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with Christ and his Church.
Our Parish Lenten Penance Service will be held on Wednesday, April 2nd from 7 - 9 PM. We will have several priests from across our Diocese available to hear Confessions. Please note: This opportunity is in addition to our regularly scheduled Reconciliation days and times.
